Tonight, we present a landmark of classic science fiction, "A Martian Odyssey" by Stanley G. Weinbaum. With this story the genre moved beyond the rayguns and rockets type of heroic adventure stories and into the surrealistic. Dick Jarvis, a member of the first expedition to Mars, has crashed in the Mare Chronium and instead of waiting to be rescued he decides to walk back to the base camp across the Martian surface. Along the way he meets and befriends some truly alien creatures. First published in 1934, it is still included on lists of the best Science Fiction stories ever written. it will be presented by Red Ryder.
