On Pastures of Plenty this week (August 28, 2024) we feature a look back at the late Jimmy Buffett, and the ballads that were a big part of his career.
Buffett passed away from a rare form of skin cancer on September 1, 2023, and we devote this episode of Pastures of Plenty to the songs that made Buffett the great Story Teller he was.
He began his career singing for tips and beer in small clubs and bars, and ended up some 50-odd years later playing to sold out sports arenas around the world. When he started out, he cited his goal of being able to write clever, meaningful songs like Joni Mitchell and Gordon Lightfoot. In addition, he developed his craft playing alongside great songwriters like John Prine, Steve Goodman and Jerry Jeff Walker.
This week's show draws liberally from throughout the span of Buffett's 37 album career.
