The International Independent Expert Mechanism to Advance Racial Justice and Equality in the context of Law Enforcement met for its fifth session March 24 and 25 at the UN in New York. They held two days of public in-person consultations on systemic racism against Africans and people of African descent in the enforcement of drug laws and policies.
This week we hear some highlights from day one of the Fifth Session including remarks by Dr. Tracie Kesee, one of the co-moderators at this session and an Expert Mechanism Expert; Trevor Velinor, the retired Commissioner of the US Virgin Islands Police Department and a board member of the Law Enforcement Action Partnership; and Ajeng Larasati, Human Rights Lead at Harm Reduction International.
