Hosts Celeste Carey and Cecil Prescod speak with writer Dave Zirin about his latest book, Bad Sports: How Owners Are Ruining the Games We Love.

Named one of the UTNE Reader's "50 Visionaries Who Are Changing Our World", Dave Zirin writes about the politics of sports for the Nation Magazine. He is their first sports writer in 150 years of existence.

His books include "A People's History of Sports in the United States," part of Howard Zinn's People's History series for the New Press;

"Welcome to the Terrordome: The Pain, Politics, and Promise of Sports" (with a foreword by the immortal Chuck D.); and "What's My Name, Fool?" Sports and Resistance in the United States" (Haymarket Books).

As a sports fan, I was glad to read that Dave Zirin, a fellow fan, wanted to take the industry to the mat, by exposing the audacity of sports ownership now & then! Definitely plan to check out the book, because he connected the known & unknown dots well.

Great points were made about the true owners of sports teams/arenas being the fans. Loved the reminder of backroom deals made & promises unkept, resulting in moving much-loved teams (and associated revenues) from one city to another, regardless of fan feedback.

Didn't get a chance to check out Dave Zirin at Powell's, but thought it interesting that he was featured on "Hard Knock Radio" on KPFA yesterday afternoon, as well as on KPOJ this morning. I heard about him on KBOO first.

Cecil & Celeste - thank y'all for championing community radio, but also for continuing to bring broad, topics to our ears - from socio-political clashes to sports mishandling.

Well done!
