With Virginia and beyond justifiably reckoning with the legacy of blackface, the continued (at least tacit) acceptance of redface at sporting events across the country still goes largely unchallenged

Locally-based Dineh (Navaho) and Yankton Dakota writer Jacqueline Keeler has been writing and fighting against racist mascots and stereotypes for years and she's pretty sick of it. But she keeps being called back into the fray, most recently invited to Cincinnati to debate with a group connected with Washington Re**kin coach Daniel Snyder, the "Native American Guardians Association." She was also invited to speak across the Ohio River at Covington High School, involved in the by now famous incident at the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, D.C., but a bomb threat cancelled that event.

Today, she will be talking with regular host Paul Roland about all that, but especially how the major blackface controversy in Virginia  actually reveals how relatively little attention and concern is given to the much more prevalent practice of "red-face"--people regularly donning feathers and red "warpaint" at sporting events all over the country.

Keeler's blog, TiyospayeNow, can be found here.

All of Vine Deloria, Jr.'s books are well worth reading. Today, we quoted from Custer Died For Your Sins (1969), from which Floyd Westerman took his album title.
