Portland is fortunate to have one of the finest youth orchestras in the country – the Portland Youth Philharmonic – which will be opening its 95th season on Saturday, November 10th. Yes, that’s 95 with an exclamation point! A remarkable achievement and a credit to the quality of the musicians, and musical directors, over that long period of time.

And KBOO is fortunate to have PYP’s current musical director, David Hattner, with us now to talk about the orchestra and the upcoming season. The opening night concert features The Far West, a movement from William Grant Still’s The American Scene; Antonín Dvořák‘s Sixth Symphony; and the first movement of Tchaikovsky’s Violin Concerto, featuring Aaron Greene, winner of PYP’s 2018-19 Soloist Competition.
