Lapa:

Lapa is synonymous to a musical adventure and experience, that blurs borders and transcends boundaries, illuminating the resonance of universal forces and teleporting people to wild, dream- like places of serenity and connection. The music creation is spearheaded by Ilya Goldberg, who is a producer and multi- instrumentalist. With a synthesis of analog, digital and found sounds, blending physical and virtual worlds, and with rooted support by Drummer/instrumentalist Brandon Warren and multi- instrumentalist Nickles D’Onofrio, Lapa’s music presents a diverse and captivating collection of sounds from around the worlds.

Wala:

Hailing from the bass factory of San Francisco, WALA blends a sexy, worldly quality into the scintillating sounds of Glitch-Hop and Dubstep. She takes dancefloors on a kinetic journey from massive crunk to cultured bhangra–and every planetary highway in-between–while staying true to bass culture’s grimy foundations. This has propelled the tiny purple haired producer to esteemed status and has sent her to festivals and clubs all over the country.

After colliding with Bass Music amidst the dusts of Burning Man in 2005, WALA immersed herself in the edm and festival culture of the West Coast, and in 2010, after a little push from her now close friend and mentor, ill.Gates, she left her career as an anthropologist to follow her musical roots. Fueled by a passion to encourage others to engage with music on an emotional level and possessing a musical background dating back to when she was just six years old, WALA quickly established a following in the West and beyond. With a heavily stamped passport and an arsenal of seven spoken languages, she has developed an eclectic musical style infused with Indian percussion, heavy bass, and glitched middle-eastern samples.

WALA’s first EP, KaliKutta, was highly acclaimed with an anxiously anticipated second release, Smoke Sutra, due to be released in mid April. She has shared the stage with the likes of Minnesota, Freq Nasty, ill.Gates, GRiZ, Grammatik, Marty Party and more. She has performed at events and festivals such as Electronic Forest, Burning Man (setting a personal record of 17 sets in five days in 2012), Lucidity Festival, and many others across the globe, with a lot of exciting plans for the future.

WALA is currently touring, creating new music, and offering workshops in Ableton Live 9. Her cat, Harley, likes to sing along to her music when she’s home producing. Harley isn’t a good singer. He’s also a little irked that WALA is on the road so much, but he’s a cat…so he’ll get over it. For more, visit www.WalaMusic.com

ABOUT THE FILM:
Music heals, right? Depends on the depths of the wounds. In Amplify Her, Electronic Dance Music artists battle demons from their painful pasts to emerge as beacons in the global festival scene. Featuring Blondtron, Applecat, Lux Moderna, WALA, and more, these women overcome isolation, illness, and gender bias to give life to their creativity.

This visually dynamic film weaves animated motion comics created by the characters and 21 female creatives from around North America to offer intimate access into the colorful worlds of emerging female artists. Rather than ask the expected: “why aren’t there more women in this male-dominated scene?”, we wonder: “what is unique about feminine expression and how might we all benefit when it flourishes?"

REVIEWS:

“The film’s outstanding cinematography provides a vivid framework for the stories of these remarkable women to unfold, and the top-notch soundtrack creates an evocative viewing experience. - Little D, Betty and Kora

“ My heart is richer, and so is my mp3 player. " - Chris Burlingame, The Sun Break
