Persian New Year this Sunday!
Title: 'Persian Hour' is celebrating 'NoRooz نوروز' the Persian new year
Sunday March 21, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. -1:00 p.m.
NoRooz marks the first day of spring and the beginning of the year in Iranian calendar. It is celebrated on the day of the astronomical vernal equinox, which occurs on or around March 21 depending on where it is observed, i.e. Portland Saturday March 20, 2010 at 10:32:00 a.m. As well as being a Zoroastrian holiday and having significance amongst the Zoroastrian ancestors of modern Iranians, the same time is celebrated in the Indian sub-continent as the New Year. The moment at which the sun passes through the vernal equinox, marking the beginning of spring in the Northern Hemisphere and the exact time when Iranian families gather together to observe the Haft Seen spread rituals.
This special 2-hr NoRooz programming was made possible, THANKS to our friends Elizabeth Perry and Cristinag at 'Mujeres Bravas' who are sharing an hour of their regular programming time with us.
