As President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr. is welcomed to the United States by the Biden administration, grassroots Philippine activists are speaking out about the reality behind the public relations facade. On today's show, host Paul Roland welcomes local organizers from the Oregon chapter of the Philippine Bayan organization. The Bagong Alyansang Makabayan ('"New Patriotic Alliance"') or Bayan ('"Nation"') is an alliance of left-wing Philippine organizations. It was founded on International Workers' Day, May 1, 1985 as part of the opposition during the Ferdinand Marcos, Sr. dictatorship.
From Oregon Bayan:
Marcos’ visit to the DC signifies the further selling out of the Philippines to the U.S. in exchange for deals that will enrich only those in power and expand U.S. military presence throughout the archipelago. This will only put the Filipino People in more danger of being in the crossfires of war.
Hear from BAYAN Oregon organizers about how this affects local Filipinos in Oregon, and how we are fighting back against the US-Marcos regime.
Join us on May 3rd for a Teach-in and Speak Out to demand an end to selling out of our country and call on our people to rise up to fight for a sovereign Philippines! RSVP: tinyurl.com/may3teachin
