International debt-related issues and understanding the economic struggles of Africa in context

Hosts Celeste Carey and Cecil Prescod speak with Priva Hang'andu from Zambia. He is currently studying in Wisconsin and served as Programme Officer for Debt Issues with Jubilee Zambia.   

Topics for discussion include Zambia's debt history, status and future; the impact of the global economic crises on Zambia; and understanding the economic struggles of Africa in context.
 
Priva Haang’andu, Programme Officer for Debt and Public Resource Monitoring at the Jesuit Centre
for Theological Reflection, 2008-2010, will speak at Portland State University and various community
locations, January 8-15, 2011. Priva has done extensive research on national and international debt-
related issues and was actively engaged in advocacy to improve borrowing and lending policies for both
Zambia and its lenders.

Priva has a BA with Honors in Philosophy and Humanities from the University of Zambia and is seeking
a MA in Political Science at Marquette University, Wisconsin. He has a Diploma in Philosophy and
Religious Education from St. Augustine’s Major Seminary in Zambia. He is the author of numerous
articles and reports and presented papers at the World Social Forum, Brazil (2009); International
Conference on Illegitimate Debt, Ecuador (2008); and the Asian International Conference on the Global
Economic Crisis (Malaysia, 2009).
 

Priva will work as a Jubilee policy fellow with Jubilee USA Network in Washington, DC, summer, 2011.
