April is Jazz Appreciation Month. Part of our series is to talk to artist, roundtable, and music, music, music...

Tune in Saturday April 9th, for a conversation with Poncho Savery, Professor of English/Humanities, and Marcia Hocker , Jazz vocalist, teacher, and Historian. Explore a range of topics: jazz promotions in the region, history, and popular culture.

At 4 pm, we'll sit down with Vibraphonist, Composer Jay Hoggard. This 40 year veteran is but a handful of musicians that play the vibraphone. Stretching back to Lional Hampton, Milt Jackson, Lem Winchester, Gary Burton, to Joe Locke, Roy Ayers, Stephon Harris - Hoggard brings a unique vision and acumen to the instrument. Music full of positive, spiritual, uplifting, and joy, his sound resonates hope and resiliance. With over 22 recording sessions, and 50 as a collaborator, you can see why I'm excited for his time with us.
HARLEM HIEROGLYPHS, his 2016 release on the JHVM label, is a two disc recording that features Gary Bartz saxophones ( past guest on the program), James Weidman piano, organ, Nat Adderley,Jr piano, organ, Belden Bullock bass, and Yoron Israel drums.
