It's not as hard as you think to grow citrus in Portland; plus it's time to prune kiwis and grapes

Hey Dirtbag listeners! We recorded this show in January, for the January 13, 2021 show. But due to unforeseen circumstances, it wasn't aired in January, so we are airing it this month! Meanwhile, stay warm...and protect whatever plants you need to and can protect.

Host Glen Andresen is joined by Jim Gilbert for a pre-recorded live show, which, as always, is chalk full of gardening and plant news. Citrus (the "winter fruit" as Jim calls it) is not as hard as you think it might be to grow in Portland and Jim tells you how to do it. Plus, it's time to prune kiwis and grapes, and we'll tell you how much you should prune off. Hint, it's way more than 50 percent! And, out of the demise of the Home Orchard Society rises the Home Orchard Education Center.

As always, we'll have a new Plant of the Month (asparagus) and from The Dirtbag Dictionary, we define what it means to "whitewash" your young fruit tree trunks.  And, of course, what's annoying Glen this month.

The Dirtbag... Listen. Laugh. Learn.
