Welcome to the Holy Crowley Hour, brought to you this month by the National Rifle Association. At the NRA, our mission is to protect your 2nd Amendment right to kill pretty much anyone who isn’t white, Christian, and barely literate. The NRA, where our motto is, and always has been, "God, guns, and borscht". But not necessarily in that order.
Tonight's guests are David K. Barnes and Tom Crowley, no relation, of the British podcast Wooden Overcoats. Wooden Overcoats is a very funny and touching audio sitcom, now in its third season, featuring a rivalry between two morticians on the fictional English Channel island of Piffling. In addition to gaining an audience of fans all over the world, Wooden Overcoats is a British Podcast Awards winner, a four-time winner of the Audioverse Awards, a Prix Europa nominee, and a Best of iTunes selection. We should also mention it just became the number one podcast in Ireland, which is no small potatoes.
We'll talk with David and Tom about their podcast, their British comedy influences, writing for audio vs. the stage, and how crowdfunding helps finance their art. In an attempt to get you hooked on the series, we'll also play the very first Wooden Overcoats episode "The Bane of Rudyard". And we'll air a trailer from the locally produced neo-noir podcast The Diarist. All that before Joe Woods enters, wearing a Red Army fur hat, wielding a balalaika, and, while performing a traditional Russian folk dance, chases us from the air room.
