The story of the Gang of Fourteen Democrats that folded like a cheap suit.

Welcome to my podcast, Left of Center. I’m Dan Johnson

Recently confirmation hearings were held for Rep. Mike Pompeo who was  tagged by Donald Trump to head the CIA.

The plan was for Democrats to build a wall of opposition in appointing Pompeo and in a few cases such as Senator Ron Wyden opposed confirming Pompeo by saying “He’s the wrong guy for this job.”

That’s all fine and good but somehow the stand against Trump and his cronies fell apart at the seams. How did this happen? Answer’s easy, fourteen Democratic Senators voted in favor of confirming him, opening the door for a smooth ride to confirmation.

Well when we return we’ll tell you who each Senator was and if that Senator is from your state, it’s your job to challenge the Senator by asking him or her why they folded like a cheap suit...first this brief pause.

I wonder if these Dems even questioned Pompeo on his position of Cruel and unusual punishment, equality in the workplace, immigration and his feeling about GMO’S. I wonder if anyone asked the question.

It’s up to all of us to keep our elected representatives on their toes and this opening salvo of cabinet appointees from challenging our constitutionaL rights.

I’m reminded of an old song from;

Bob Marley and The Wailers

Get up, stand up: stand up for your rights!

Get up, stand up: stand up for your rights!

Get up, stand up: stand up for your rights!

Get up, stand up: don't give up the fight!

I want to remind you that on 13 February, at 11 or 11:30 am,I’ll be interviewing Susan Quinn, author of Eleanor and Hick the love affair that shaped a first lady on KBOO 90.7 FM. This is a love story that took place over a five year period, while Eleanor and Franklin D.resided in the White House.
