Mt. St. Helens from Ape Canyon

Since 2010, Ascot Resources has been trying to get a permit to conduct exploratory drilling for gold, copper and molybdenum deposits on Mt. St. Helens, with plans to ultimately develop a mine. The proposed drilling project is located just outside the boundary of the Mount St. Helens National Volcanic Monument in the Green River valley and would destroy popular recreation areas including Goat Mountain and the Green River Horse Camp.

Meanwhile, for the last decade, the Cascade Forest Conservancy has worked to prevent mining exploration and development near Mount St. Helens. On this episode of Locus Focus, we talk with Matt Little and Michal Orczyk, with the Cascade Forest Conservancy, about their efforts to permanently protect the Green River valley near Mount St. Helens from mineral exploration and development.
