Back in a time when records were cheap and easy to produce, and underground extreme hardcore and sludge were the furthest thing from commercially viable, Slap A Ham Records and Pessimiser Records started in California as places for wide-ranging, raw, filth-ridden rage. This was the beginning of "power-violence" and sludge metal, as bands as varied and innovative as Melvins, Man is the Bastard, Burning Witch and Crossed Out all put out early records on these now long defunct labels. No money-seeking, big venue, polished production versions of "hardcore" and "doom," this was the real deal, and many of these releases are now sought after for large amounts of money on the dumb internet (you can probably find many of these in discount bins in your town if you look in the right place.) Enjoy, and adjust your expectations, this stuff is lo-fi and irritating, just as it was meant to be!
