A new documentary spotlights film collectors who rescue rare and overlooked reels from the landfill

In this 50% longer conversation with documentarian and media studies professor Peter Flynn, we dive deeper into the world of amateur film collectors, whose avocation has made them outlaws to the major movie studios and heroes to lovers of analog cinema.  Peter's latest project, Film Is Dead. Long Live Film! follows up on his earlier documentary The Dying of the Light, a profile of the last generation of career projectionists.

We're also joined by archivist and documentarian Greg Hamilton, who is bringing Film Is Dead. Long Live Film! to Portland's Clinton Street Theater on March 17th, and is also screening Mardi Gras films by documentarian Les Blank on March 4th.
