On Pastures of Plenty this week (April 24, 2024) we honor the music of the late Pete Seeger, who would have been so tickled to hear the news of the successful union vote at the Volkswagen plant in Chattanooga, Tennessee. Seeger's birthday is on May 3, and the union vote by 73 % of the 3500 workers to join the UAW marks the first successful union vote in the South since the 1940's. In addition to the labor movement, Seeger was a strong advocate for many social issues, including climate, peace, poverty and democracy struggles. The first half of the show is devoted to various renditions of Seeger's songs, including Natalie Merchant with "Which Side Are You On", Jackson Browne & Bonnie Raitt doing "Kisses Sweeter Than Wine" and Donovan backed by a children's chorus performing "My Rainbow Race".
