Today's guest is Joe Sacco, a graphic artist/comics journalist based in Portland. Sacco is known for his hard-hitting political storytelling. In 1993, Fantagraphics began publishing Palestine, Joe Sacco’s landmark work of graphic journalism, a first-person chronicle that gave voice to the voiceless and dispossessed people who were living and suffering in Gaza, the West Bank, and East Jerusalem - the Palestinian territories.
Intro song by Dalal Abu Amneh "Ihna Flistinia" (We are Palestinian). Abu Amneh has faced daily protests by right-wing Zionists and police at her home in Nazareth for the past four months, after she was targeted by the Israeli government for harassment due to one innocuous social media post she made on October 7th stating "God will be the victor". She has made no other comment, but that post was enough to make her a target for ongoing harassment as a Palestinian living inside what is now Israel, with Israeli citizenship but second-class rights.
