Human Rights Violations in Zimbabwe

Last week, 45 people were arrested in Harare, the capital of Zimbabwe, for watching a video on the uprising in Egypt. They were charged with treason and were tortured by government personnel. One of the detainees was pushed out of a second floor window resulting in a broken leg. Some of the detainees are HIV positive and in need of their life-saving medicine. All have been denied access to medical treatment, lawyers and proper meals.

Unfortunately, this is only one example out of thousands of human rights violations, which are happening daily in Zimbabwe. Tonight on Circle A Radio, we'll hear from Dumi Tutani, one of the coordinators of Zimbabwe Vigil, a UK based organization that has supported human rights in Zimbabwe, with weekly protests for more than 8 years.  Later in the show, we will bring you audio from Jenni Williams, national coordinator with WOZA - Women of Zimbabwe Arise.  We’ll also bring you music and poetry from Zimbabwean artists.
