Two members of a recent solidarity trip to the Philippines join host Paul Roland in the studio

Today's guests are Copeland Downs and Gabe Penk. Downs is a member of the Portland Committee for Human Rights in the Philippines (PCHRP), a grassroots organization committed to defending human rights and building a just and lasting peace in the Philippines.

Penk is a member of Kalikasan Solidarity Organization (KSO), a Portland-based environmental justice organization fighting in solidarity with peasants, indigenous people, and land and water defenders in the Philippines.

Both KSO and PCHRP are member organizations of the International Coalition for Human Rights in the Philippines (ICHRP), a solidarity network of concerned organizations and prominent individuals campaigning for human rights and just and lasting peace in the Philippines. ICHRP-Global launched an International Observers Mission prior to the 2022 national elections in response to calls for international solidarity from the Filipino people in their struggle to assert their basic civil and political rights. Eleven Portland-based members of KSO, PCHRP, as well as People Organizing for Philippine Solidarity (POPS) and the International Women’s Alliance (IWA) recently returned from 2 weeks in the Philippines helping to contribute to ICHRP’s final report of the 2022 Philippine election.
