Trump, the Big Lie, and Voting Rights

As DONALD TRUMP’s Big Lie spawns conspiracy theories and widespread bitterness about local elections beyond 2020, let’s look at its impact nationally on voting access. Across the country, Republican candidates are spending money on ads and throwing doubt on the legitimacy of elections to motivate their base. Even nonpartisan city council races are now heavily nationalized. As Elena Schneider recently wrote in POLITICO reporting on the local races in Green Bay, Wisconsin, it’s all “an example of how Trump’s conspiracy theories have torn apart faith in government, from Washington, D.C. down to the local level.”
