How does sunlight affect fruits and veggies, and how does extra rainfall or drought effect nectar production? And why pruning some fruit trees in the summer is a good idea.

Host Glen Andresen and co-pilot Jim Gilbert are back live in the studio this month. It's time for summer pruning; if you haven't tried it, you may want to switch. Plus, how does sunlight affect fruit production? And how does rainfall or drought affect nectar production? And, how to make syrup from tart fruit.

As always, we'll have a new Plant of the Month (pole beans) and a new Garden Stumper--the first listener who calls in with the correct answer gets a free sharpening of a gardening hand tool from Cully Farm Store in Northeast Portland. Our musical theme this month  is "New York City." Plus, our Dirtbag Dictionary term is "deadheading." And finally, what Glen is trying to understand this month.

Don't forget, if you have a gardening question, and don't want to call in, you can always email us at thedirtbag@kboo.org -- we'll answer your question on the air during the next show. And, surprise, this is the same email to use to answer The Garden Stumper if you don't want to call in.

The Dirtbag, a garden variety show... Listen. Laugh. Learn.
