While I am a big fan of pretty electronica, this show was something of a cheat - I was out of town for the weekend & didn't have the time to be able to put together the regular Self Help Radio experience.
IDM stands for "intelligent dance music" & the Wikipedia defines it as "a style of electronic music originating in the early 1990s that is regarded as 'cerebral' & better suited to home listening than dancing. Emerging from electronic & rave music styles such as ambient techno, acid house, & breakbeat, IDM tended to rely upon individualistic experimentation rather than adhering to characteristics associated with specific genres."
Most fans of IDM don't really like the name. But it's here to stay. & it's really fun to listen to. At least I think so. Hope you do too!
