US Economic Crisis: How Its Affecting Women In Other Countries

Friday, November 28th I aired and recapped the three interviews that I conducted during the wee hours of Tuesday, November 25th.  All three guests were from another country; Sweden, France and The Netherlands.  My guests/interviewees included Adrianne George, owner of AG Communications: in Stockholm; Professor Diana Derval, founder of Derval Research: in Amsterdam and Liva Judic, Career Coach with Ayna Partners: in Paris.  Each one brought a nuance to

2008 Fall Membership Drive Results

Thanks very much to everyone who contributed during our recent Fall Membership Drive!  I'm thrilled to report that we met our fundraising goal of $125,000 ( $126,187 actually raised), although the on-air portion of the Drive fell short.  We immediately sent out a special appeal to people who didn't call in during the Drive, which resulted in enough additional contributions to fill the gap.  YAY!

caring labor and the economic stimulus

for the Old Mole Dec 1, 2008

As president-elect Barak Obama puts together his economic stimulus plan, a number of feminist economists have proposed that it ought to include investments not just in infrastructure—things like roads and bridges—but also in "human infrastructure," or the care economy. Women have been among those hardest hit by the economic crisis, because women are among the most vulnerable economically. Of the 37 million Americans living in poverty even before the crisis, 27 million are women and children. By making his economic plan friendly not just to the natural environment but also to the human needs so often met by the work of women, feminist economists suggest, Obama can increase both the efficacy and the equity of his economic plan.

Sarah Palin; Evita or Dan Quayle

Have you seen the video of the Governor of Alaska Sarah Palin. She's at a Turkey farm to pardon a turkey as part of her official duties.

Following the event  Governor Palin gives an interview for television  in the background clearly visible is a worker slaughtering turkeys one by one. The clueless Palin even ends the interview joking about that she's in the right place for Thanksgiving because she will be cooking the Turkey. The footage is both horrifying and hysterical. Not for the squeamish or those with very soft hearts. Every time I see it I find myself laughing, but what does it tell us if anything about Palin. Is she a buffoon, someone so laughable that we can dismiss her with great skits by Tina Fey or is she personally the new face of the most right wing of the right wing? Is she a facist with a populist front? Charismatic leader or a polarizing flash in the pan?
