Thank You Pink Martini!

A huge KBOO hug of appreciation goes out to Pink Martini for pulling off a fabulous 4-night Fundfest extravaganza! Fundfest 2008 raised over $66,000 which will be split into a generous $16,000+ for each of the beneficiary organizations. Aside from KBOO, the other amazing non-profits included Friends of Trees, Outside In and the Bicycle Transportation Alliance. Pink Martini put on some very exciting concerts, along with wonderful opening bands Portland Cello Project, 3 Leg Torso, The Stolen Sweets and the Fjord Motor Company.

Certainly both groups have faced legislative attacks. Richard Fricker on Consortium News is only one of several recent writers to note what he calls a “surge of theocracy tinged with white racialism,” which he sees in a series of recent measures in Oklahoma.

But of course it’s not just Oklahoma.

Our discussion this week turns to QDoc, the only queer documentary film festival in the US,  happening May 29 thru June 1 at the Clinton St Theater.

Time to come out of hibernation!

First of all I want to thank all the volunteers who helped with the Amy Goodman/David Goodman benefit we did last month. It was a great success and we raised about $16,000. Upcoming benefits include the Pink Martini Fundfest in June at the Crystal Ballroom with KBOO as one of the 4 non-profit beneficiaries. Big thanks to Pink Martini for choosing KBOO this year! And don't forget, the monthly KBOO Reggae Benefit happens May 24 at the Blue Monk and features Nuborn Tribe w/ Ital Vibes.
