It's a 'Get Up, Stand Up' Day...

In Washington D.C. activists are occupying the headquarters of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) risking arrest  in order to get the message across:  Massey Mining is wagging the dog and Mountaintop Removal Mining is the King Hell Hole in America’s heart.   Late last month, the EPA green-lighted a huge MTR permit for Pine Creek mine in Logan County, West Virginia.

In addition to blowing another mountain in Appalachia to smithereens, the Pine Creek mine permit allows Arch Coal to create three valley fills, poisoning two miles of streams with blast debris. These streams currently provide drinking water and fish for the local residents and wildlife of Logan County.

And Malik Rahim of Common Ground New Orleans isn't sitting around waiting for DC to bestir it's sluggish self.  Malik is leading Bike for the Gulf.  (www.bikeforthegulf.org) from the devastated beauty of his home town to the Belly of the Beast in the East.  From the 9th Ward to the White House...it's 'Get Up, Stand Up' Time...
