'We're all Detroiters now'...It is looking more and more like poverty will be the Face of the Future. And that puts Detroit at the forefront of social change in America. Just ask activist and US Social Forum organizer Will Copeland. Mainstream media has made hay out of the the plight of Rust Belt cities - Detroit featured prominently as the poster child for crime and urban decay. The view from the 2010 Forum is radically - in every sense of the word - different. Learning to live with less won't come easily to those Americans who have the most to lose. Leadership is going to come from those best equipped to handle severely limited levels of consumption. As the saying goes, "We can do this the easy way or the hard way"...Or the US Social Forum by consciously choosing to live within boundaries of Natural Capital and the parameters of the earth's carrying capacity. And do it in a spirit of mutual respect, resiliance and community.
