Yesterday, President Barack Obama expressed some ‘Deep Thoughts’ on the oil spill. Alas, the deep pockets at BP and Transoceanic are still trying to foist the clean-up off on the federal government. And the tea party animals are blaming the government for not doing enough. But wait: I thought the Tea Party hated the government, source of all our current troubles - except for those caused by the private sector in the form of the oil industry. In the devastated Gulf of Mexico marine habitat, a second undersea plume turned up yesterday. This one is thick, 22-miles wide – which is no measure of the actual volume of the plume – and it is nearing an underwater canyon, where it could poison the foodchain for sealife in the waters off Florida. And these are only the gushers that have been identified…what else is out there? What aren’t they telling us?
Which leads us to the NW Natural shareholders meeting. Olivia Schmidt caught a ride inside on the coat-tails of an actual shareholder and reported that the company made the most of its 15 minutes of fame by hoodwinking its own investors - but as history amply demonstrates, investors don't mind being hoodwinked as long as they are making money...Quid Est Demonstrandum...
