Lee Konitz music from 1940s, 1950s, 1970s
We lost saxophonist Lee Konitz on April 15
after an active career that spanned 75 years -
from 1944 through 2019.
Today, in this first of three parts,
aired just after the 2 p.m. news headlines,
we'll hear Lee from his very beginnings.
In 2 weeks, part 2 will include KBOO's live in-studio interview with Lee, and others,
conducted by Nick Gefroh in conjunction with Lee's 2015 Portland performances.
Also presented will be Lee's music from 2009's Duos with Lee
with pianist Dan Tepfer.
In 4 weeks, we plan to present a 45-minute tribute to Lee
by Dan Tepfer, followed by excerpts from their 2018 CD together, Decades.
The second hour of the show will feature our top flight Portland area musicians.
