KBOO Recognizes Union
(L-R) Madelyn Elder and Lynn Fitch |
Lynn Fitch, KBOO Station Navigator and Madelyn Elder, President of the Communication Workers of America Local 7901, at a May 4th meeting following Lynn's announcement that KBOO would voluntarily recognize the union and was ready to enter into nego-tiations. But because the union is proceeding with its election petition, KBOO cannot lawfully recognize the union as the collective bargaining agent of the employees and engage in negotiations until such time as the election is over and the union is certified as the winner. The election is scheduled for May 30th, Noon to 1:00 pm at KBOO's studios.
KBOO Fosters New Statewide Media Project
Community radio stations throughout Oregon team with KBOO to produce local content for their communities throughout the state!
KBOO's strategic plan goal of being a regional media center is becoming a reality. At a recent gathering in Ashland, of Oregon Community Radio Stations, KBOO's Station Navigator, Lynn Fitch, suggested several activities for the newly formed "Oregon Community Media" consortium to collaborate on ─ with KBOO assuming a mentor and leadership role.
The emerging OCM will partner to produce statewide programming, with content supplied by contributing community stations, and KBOO producing the final piece. They will pursue grant funding for a shared PT reporter stationed in Salem to cover legislative issues. Each community station will receive underwriter training and information from KBOO, to begin raising business support and revenue for their stations efforts.

Most importantly, with KBOO's support and direction, the OCM will be able to rebroadcast the 2013 Waterfront Blues Festival, in their own communities ─ helping to raise money for the Oregon Food Bank and awareness about hunger in our State. More on this exciting endeavor as we move ahead.
