Aaaaaaaand now: Another PRESS**WATCH list of useful media sources!  Copy and paste and print!

Jacobinmag.com  “Jacobin is a leading voice of the American left, offering socialist perspectives on politics, economics, and culture. The print magazine is released quarterly and reaches over 30,000 subscribers, in addition to a web audience of 1,000,000 a month.” Chomsky likes it.

projectcensored.org. "Project Censored educates students and the public about the importance of a truly free press for democratic self-government.  We expose and oppose news censorship and we promote independent investigative journalism, media literacy, and critical thinking. Through our website, weekly radio program, annual book, and other programs, we provide this service to the United States, Canada, UK, and the world."

FAIR.org  “FAIR, the national media watch group, has been offering well-documented criticism of media bias and censorship since 1986. We work to invigorate the First Amendment by advocating for greater diversity in the press and by scrutinizing media practices that marginalize public interest, minority and dissenting viewpoints. As an anti-censorship organization, we expose neglected news stories and defend working journalists when they are muzzled. As a progressive group, FAIR believes that structural reform is ultimately needed to break up the dominant media conglomerates, establish independent public broadcasting and promote strong non-profit sources of information.”

Wsws.org  “Published by the International Committee of the Fourth International (ICFI)” i.e., Trotskyists.  This is a good source for anti-imperialism, anti-capitalist articles, and Left analysis-- and one simply must keep one’s filters active against its bro-attitude and Left-circular-firing-squad habits.

Commondreams.org “Common Dreams is a daily, glorious taste of what the dominant media could be if it was shaped by our common dreams of justice and peace. In the meantime, we owe an enormous debt to Common Dreams, which does so much to keep the dream of that alternative world alive.”  -Naomi Klein ...Bill Moyers and Ralph Nader also submit testimonials. It’s a good daily news source.

Alternet.org  A bit tabloid-ish but often a good source for breaking news on the Left.

Inthesetimes.com  “In These Times, an independent, nonprofit magazine, is dedicated to advancing democracy and economic justice, informing movements for a more humane world, and providing an accessible forum for debate about the policies that shape our future.”  This one, Commondreams, and Counterpunch are essentials. Read them every day.

Counterpunch.org  Wikipedia: “CounterPunch began as a newsletter, established in 1994 by the Washington, D.C.-based investigative reporter Ken Silverstein. He was soon joined by Alexander Cockburn and then Jeffrey St. Clair, who became the publication's editors in 1996 when Silverstein left. In 2007, Cockburn and St. Clair wrote that in founding CounterPunch they had "wanted it to be the best muckraking newsletter in the country"...Cockburn died in 2012 at the age of 71, environmental journalist Joshua Frank became managing editor and Jeffrey St. Clair became editor-in-chief of CounterPunch.

Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung FAZ.com  It’s useful to turn to a foreign source on the news now and then.  This is no leftist publication, but it ain’t American. Use the auto-translate if you don’t speak German.

La Jornada  http://www.jornada.com.mx  An alternative and sometimes Leftish take on the news, and an opportunity to look outside the USA’s blinkered press agenda.

SCMP.com  South China Morning Press, a Chinese take on the news, in English.  Better coverage of North Korea.

Right Wing Watch   http://www.rightwingwatch.org  “Right Wing Watch is a project of People For the American Way (PFAW) dedicated to monitoring and exposing the activities and rhetoric of right-wing activists and organizations in order to expose their extreme agenda. Our researchers monitor dozens of broadcasts, emails and websites, and use their expertise on right-wing movements to analyze and distill that information for media, allies and the general public. By shedding light on the activities of the right-wing movement, we help expose the risks its extreme and intolerant agenda presents to our country. We do not endorse the views of groups that we report on.

People For the American Way is a progressive advocacy organization founded to fight right-wing extremism and defend constitutional values including free expression, religious liberty, equal justice under the law, and the right to meaningfully participate in our democracy. You can learn more about PFAW’s work on our website at www.pfaw.org.”

Theroot.com  “Black news, opinion, politics, and culture.”  Often quite eye-opening.

Truthdig.com  “Truthdig, founded in 2005 by Publisher Zuade Kaufman and Editor in Chief Robert Scheer, is dedicated to reporting on current issues that are insufficiently covered by mainstream media. The website’s mission is to dig beneath the headlines, provide expert reporting and commentary from a progressive point of view and offer an outlet for original work by exceptional journalists.”

https://popularresistance.org  “PopularResistance.org is a resource and information clearinghouse for this movement of movements. We provide a daily stream of resistance news from the United States and around the world, and a national events calendar. “
