Transgender and Poly

Polyamory is the ability or capacity to love more than one person at a time.

Sometimes seen as the practice of, or desire for, intimate relationships with more than one partner, with the knowledge of all partners involved, it has been described as "consensual, ethical, and responsible non-monogamy". People who identify as polyamorous believe in an open relationship without the jealousy of monogamy; they reject the view that sexual and relational exclusivity are necessary for deep, committed, long-term loving relationships. This concept is similar to the ideas and philosophies of polygamy.

Joining us this week on Transpositive PDX we are honored to have Cunning Minx, host of the longest running podcast Polyamory Weekly.  Cunning Minx is a poly and kinky sex-positive educator and activist who has been the producer and host of the Polyamory Weekly podcast since 2005, now with over 500 episodes in production. A kinky boobiesexual, Minx founded the show as a resource for the poly and poly-curious to form a community, share experiences and help guide each other on their journeys of poly exploration.

The transgender experience can be fertile ground for exploring new meaning of what it means to be in relationship. According to Christian Klesse in Notions of Love in Polyamory, "It [polyamory] is primarily due to the emphasis on honesty and consensus that polyamory is frequently referred to as a “responsible practice of non-monogamy". Most publications suggest that polyamory promotes a distinctive set of values. As a consensual approach to non-monogamy, polyamory promotes an ethics based on honesty, respectful negotiation and decision making, integrity, reciprocity and equality.

This week on Transpositive we will continue a conversation about what it means to be poly in trans and non-binary relationships. We will also be joined by Jessica Hart, Charlotte Coloumbe and Jessie Grey to talk about their experiences as a trans and gender non binary persons in poly relationships.

Transpositive is a monthly program in Portland exploring themes important to those who identify as Transgender, Gender Non Binary and Gender Non-Conforming. Transpositive tries to connect listeners with the ongoing activist, arts, culture, and dialogue happening in Portland and beyond.
