Doyal Smith, DDA of Oregon

Karen James discusses dual diagnosis with Doyal Smith, Executive Director of DDA of Oregon.  Dual Diagnosis Anonymous (DDA) is a peer support group based on an authorized version of the 12 Steps of Alcoholics Anonymous plus an additional 5 Steps that focus on Dual Diagnosis (mental illness and substance abuse). DDA's unique 12 Steps Plus 5 Program offers hope for achieving the promise of recovery.

In August 2001 the first Bridgepoint Chapter of DDA began when founder Corbett Monica accepted a position as Lead Counselor for the Bridgepoint Program at Columbia River Correctional Facility. Twelve men attended the meeting.  Soon other prisons held DDA meetings including meetings for women at Coffee Creek Correctional Facility.

Due to an unresolved contract issue between Oregon Department of Corrections (ODOC) and DDA of Oregon, these meetings have not been available to persons in ODOC custody for the past several years.
