The Vanport Mosaic Festival took place last weekend, commemorating what was Oregon’s second largest city before a flood destroyed it in 1948.
KBOO reporter Theresa Mitchell interviewed Sharon Maxwell, a Portland writer and activist, as well as former City Council candidate, about Vanport’s importance in Portland’s history and how it ties to issues in gentrification.
The Vanport Mosaic Project put on the festival, and their website contains all sorts of information and oral histories about the flood.
