In a talk titled after his book, "The More Beautiful World our Hearts Know is Possible" Charles Eisenstein spoke about the the deep mythology of our culture changing from a Story of Separation to a Story of Interbeing. This new (and ancient) mythology is what unites the yogi and the activist, alternative healing and permaculture, holistic education and participatory citizenship, racial justice and nonviolent communication. They are the diverse faces of the same movement, the same transition in story. Charles was accompanied by the music of Trevor Oswald, East Forest, and was invited to speak by City Repair. The talk took place August 10, 2016, and was co-sponsored by the Economic Justice Action Group and the First Unitarian Church of Portland.
Charles Eisenstein is the visionary author of "Sacred Economics" and "The Ascent of Humanity" and a celebrated speaker. He generally charges people expenses but no fee, leaving it up to them to give him something if they feel the urge. This appeals to his ideal of generosity and "living in the gift." When Charles became aware of City Repair's work, he become inspired by it as embodying of some of the ideas that he is passionate about. City Repair's co-founder Mark Lakeman opened the evening.
