Red Lodge Transition Services
Karen James interviews Trish Jordan, Executive Director, and Art McConnville, Board member of Red Lodge Transition Services. Native Americans account for less than 2% of Oregon’s population, yet more than 10% are incarcerated in Oregon. Trish and Art discuss their work in the prisons, where they began as Native American religious service volunteers advocating for religious freedom and human rights, and recognized the need to bridge prison with community. Their work in the prisons often helps Native Americans reconnect to their Native spirituality and culture. Prisoners donate their art work to help support Red Lodge. The Native American Prison Art Project is displayed in venues throughout the state and Red Lodge also produces a calendar each year featuring the prisoners’ art. Red Lodge is seeking funds to help ‘Raise the Red Lodge’, a transition home for women releasing from prison.
