Up Against the Wall Motherfucker

In a surprise that no one saw coming, two former members of Jefferson Airplane, guitarist Paul Kantner and vocalist Signe Toly Anderson, both died January 28th in unrelated situations. Signe sang with the band for almost a year, leaving in October 1966 to have a child. Grace Slick joined the band immediately and personally became synonymous with their sound.

Kantner met Balin at an open house in 1965 and began playing music together. Jorma Kaukonen, who lived near Kantner, soon joined them and recommended his friend Jack Casady to play bass; and there you have most of the band.

Today I'll be playing mostly songs written by Paul Kantner for the Airplane, but also some very early Jefferson Starship and other solo efforts, as well as some early live Airplane featuring Signe's vocals.
