Allyship in the New Age of Abolition: Assata Shakur & Political Prisoners
Adam Carpinelli will interview Ashanti Alston about resistance to the Prison Industrial Complex (PIC) and former Political Prisoner (PP) Assata Shakur. Ashanti is also former PP as a result of underground activity with to the Black Liberation Army.He currently is based in Rhode Island and works with The Jericho Movement for Political Prisoner Amnesty. Ashanti identifies as an Anarchist Panther and has contributed to the building of a national network called Anarchist People of Color and Critical Resistance. Alston will explain the need for organizations and movements led by People of Color and what that says about white allyship. His background organizing against the PIC as well as amnesty work for long term u.s.-held Political Prisoners and Prisoners of War from the Civil Rights/COINTELPRO era will be discussed.
