I Am Troy Davis

Stephanie Guy presents I Am Troy Davis. In April 2014 Jen Marlowe, co-author of I Am Troy Davis, and Troy's sister, Kimberly Davis, lead a discussion about the book, Troy’s case, and the impact Troy's struggle has had on those still fighting for justice and an end to the death penalty in Oregon. The event was held at the United Methodist Church in Portland. Reading from I Am Troy Davis are Frank Thompson, former Superintendent of Oregon State Penitentiary; Naseem Rakha, author of ‘The Crying Tree”; and Tony Funchess, First Vice-President of NAACP Portland Chapter; read from the book. Dr. Audrey Terrell, president of the NAACP Portland Chapter, introduced the authors. The event was organized by Terrie Rodello, AIUSA Oregon State Death Penalty Abolition Coordinator and co-sponsored by Amnesty International Portland Group 48, Oregonians for Alternatives to the Death Penalty (OADP), and Kol Shalom Community for Humanistic Judaism.

On September 21, 2011 Troy Anthony Davis was put to death by the state of Georgia despite overwhelming evidence pointing to his innocence. Davis’ execution was protested by hundreds of thousands of people across the globe, and Pope Benedict XVI, President Jimmy Carter, and 51 members of Congress all appealed for clemency. I Am Troy Davis is co-authored by Jen Marlowe and Troy Davis’ sister Martina Davis-Correia.
