An honest, candid and humorous conversation with music of the 40s and 50s. Don Manning & Madame X!
Madame X! Nick Gefroh shares a candid and humorous interview by longtime KBOO jazz programmer Don Manning from 1997, originally aired live during his noon to 2 program on Wednesdays. It's an interview Don did with Madame X (Gail Madden), a legendary jazz lady who knew everybody and has a million stories. She knew Miles and Bird, and everyone else. Host Nick Gefroh knew her too, when she lived in Portland for a few years in the 60s, and her husband played in the same band as Nick, The Carl Smith Band. The show includes many examples of the music they talk about in the interview. The archived program was passed along to Nick by another longtime KBOO jazz host, Jim Andrews.
