Interview with Aaron Dixon, Co-Founder, Seattle Chapter of the Black Panthers

Join me on Thursday, February 21, as I speak with Aaron Dixon, the co-founder of the Seattle chapter of the Black Panther Party.  In 1968, the Seattle chapter earned the distinction of being the first chapter of the Black Panther Party founded outside of the state of California, and Aaron was just 19-years old at the time. Aaron's memoir, My People Are Rising: Memoir of a Black Panther Party Captain, chronicles the courage and unforgettable legacy of a generation’s struggle for justice and social change.

Dixon’s story is a reminder that ordinary people can organize and struggle for the liberation of all. He has remained dedicated to working for justice and social change through his work as the founder of Central House, a non-profit which focuses on providing transitional housing for youth as well as his work with Cannon House, a senior assisted-living facility. He also ran for the U.S. Senate on the Green Party ticket in 2006.
My People Are Rising: Memoir of a Black Panther Party Captain is an important contribution to the education of today’s adults and youth who are dedicated to creating justice and social change.
Aaron will also speak at Portland Community College’s Cascade Campus at 4 p.m. in the Student Center and again at Portland State University’s Smith Memorial Center in Room 298 at 7 p.m.
