we will be flipping the script and speaking with a favourite of paula the small (of 'paula's picks')- david ornette cherry! paula's emphasis on art and culture is a nice balance to our focus on the sociopolitical side of things. with that, we are looking forward to looking at this full spectrum of mr. cherry, regarding his art.
mr. cherry's history is rich with gems... his descendents/ancestors and elders changed the face of jazz music as we know it. the son of don cherry; mr. cherry was surrounded by the presence of the sounds of his father, ornette coleman, billy higgins, charlie haden, and more. as we speak with him on subjects such as what he calls the 'world and jazz idioms' we will also explore the various eras of jazz, and its collective social significance.
