The topic is "French and Fermented." (See image of fermentation at left.) First, organizers of Portland's second annual Fermentation Festival join us in-studio to tell us about the D.I.Y. pickles, krauts and brews they'll be sampling at the Ecotrust conference center later that evening. Then David Welch, the co-owner and bar master at Lincoln, stops by to plug another D.I.Y. event. He's running a "Bar Camp" to take the fear out of mixing old-fashioned cocktails. Finally, Laura presents a brief recorded interview with favorite cookbook author Dorie Greenspan, who has just published Around My French Table. Greenspan and former Oregonian food editor Martha Holmberg mused on the revival of French cuisine at the Heathman Hotel Tuesday night.
And for pledge drive, we'll be offering a gorgeous copy of Greenspan's new hardbound book. We'll also have two copies of Salted by former Food Show co-host Mark Bitterman to offer and one copy of Edible Stories by Mark Kurlansky, who is reading at Powells Nov. 9.
