On today's episode, we welcome Stephen O’Donnell, author of the new story collection Half-Light. Stephen is a Portland-based painter, whose work is widely collected both here in the U.S. and abroad. He’s best known for his self-portraiture, working mainly in the genre known as historicized portrait, in which a recognizable subject is portrayed in period costume or mythological guise, a style Stephen has adopted from great artists of the past.
Stephen previously published the book The Untold Gaze, a collection of his paintings, paired with short fiction and poetry by 33 authors, all inspired by those paintings. Stephen co-edited The Untold Gaze with his wife, writer and graphic designer Gigi Little. Half- Light is his first work of fiction. And it’s a violation of the laws of talent that he’s so good at both the visual and written arts!
