Old Mole Bill Resnick talks with Kaitlyn Dey, a community Organizer now challenging the city's policy of sweeping, harassing and criminalizing the homeless. Kaitlyn recently did her thesis at Portland State University titled "Fighting Back Against Criminalization of Homelessness", where she also a leader in the Portland Student Union.
She talks with Bill as a spokesperson for the End Clean and Safe campaign that wants to convince the City to not renew the contract with the Portland Business Alliance controlled enhanced service district known as Clean and Safe. They discuss why, ranging from the enormous amount of their budget that passes through to private police forces (and to several members of the Portland Business Alliance board) to the unaccountable power large property owners wield. Bill calls for a "just transition", especially for the "clean side" of the Clean and Safe workforce, who do important sanitation work for the downtown community.
