This is Kellyn with your COMMUNITY CALENDAR for WEDNESDAY, March 31, 2010.


EVERY Monday and Wednesday is the Books to Prisoners weekly mailing, from 5 to 8 pm, in the garage at the end of the driveway at 1112 NE Morton, between Ainsworth & Dekum. These books are sent to prisoners across the country. They are always in need of new or used dictionaries and thesauruses. Check out www.pdxbookstoprisoners.org.

EVERY Wednesday at 6pm check out a new event at the Whitefeather Peace Community on 3315 North Russet Street. A vegetarian potluck is to start. More info at www.whitefeatherpeace.org, or call 503.327.8250.

Improve your public speaking skills in a fun way. Come to the Tabor Square SE Multicultural Center's Spring Open House at 4610 SE Belmont, in the basement conference room. Open to all and no experience necessary. Snacks and beverages will be provided. The event runs from 6 to 7:30pm. Call 503.708.9098 if you have questions.

Sisters of the Road, Street Roots and the Community Alliance of Tenants will be hosting a vigil on the site of the North Macadam development, block 33, to mourn the loss of the 400 units of housing that were slated to be built for low-income families. Father Bob Loughery of the Downtown Chapel will preside over the reading of the last rites. Community members and organizers will be meeting from 4:45pm until 5:30pm at the sidewalk in front of Elizabeth Caruthers Park on 3508 SW Moody.
