A recent study by the Center for Strategic and International Studies examined the possibility of an Israeli nuclear strike on Iran.

The study found that an Israeli show of force towards Iran is not entirely out of the question in the coming two years.

But neither Barack Obama nor Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu mentioned that possibility in their statements after today’s meeting of the two leaders.

A state department official in the Obama administration caused a stir two weeks ago by listing Israel as one of the nations that have nuclear weapons and have not yet signed on to the Nuclear non-proliferation treaty.

Israel has not publicly acknowledged its nuclear arsenal, although Former Prime Minister Ehud Olmert did mention the arsenal’s existence in a brief slip last year.

Besides his meeting with Netanyahu today, Obama plans to meet with Iranian officials this month. Phyllis Bennis says she hopes that the talks will lead to more thorough discussions.
