As we do every year, we present excerpts from "The Father Christmas Letters" by J.R.R. Tolkien. These are letters that he wrote to his children every year at Christmas starting in the mid 1920's when they were very young and right up to the eve of World War 2. In the letters, Father Christmas relates how, with his friend and assistant The North Polar Bear, along with the many elves, prepare the gifts each year for all the world's children. Some years there are humorous mishaps due to the rush to get all the toys and chocolates together. Often followed by a large celebration once all the delieveries are made. But, some years, armies of goblins besiege Santa's large cliff house and workshops in an effort to steal everything for themselves. Resulting in large battles. Portland author, and co founder of Gremlin Time, the late Katherine Dunn will be reading, accompanied by the music of Borodin, Mussorgsky, Ravel, Holst, Wendy Carlos, and Sir Arthur Sullivan.
