Mirabile dictu, The Environmental Protection Agency cares about Portland's cryptosporidium ordeal. Or at least would like to appear so, since fighting micro-organisms is so much easier than standing up to macro-organizations, pollutors of the sort that turned the Willamette River into a cesspool. So it's farewell to open water or perhaps we can construct an enormous plastic water bottle for each of the city's water troughs. We could sell the branding rights for each bottle to Coca Cola, Nestle and Evian. And use the money to clean up the civic sewage we call the Willamette.
